HIS father is, in most people’s eyes, Scotland’s best footballer.
And he’s not bad when it comes to all-timer one-liners either.
Sir Kenny Dalglish 102 caps collected for Scotland and is the national team’s joint record scorer with 30 goals.
He is a club icon at both Celtic And Liverpoolwho was nicknamed King Kenny at Anfield to underline his legendary status.
His son Paul is a football agent and was previously a coach and manager, winning several awards in the United States.
But before that he built a career on his own field Newcastle, Norwich city, Livingston And Hibs including after spending time in the youth academies of Celtic and Liverpool.
Granted, the heights his father reached would have been almost impossible to scale, but Dalglish Jr thinks he probably could have made more of his abilities if he had listened to his old man’s advice a little more.
However, when he tried to tell him in a heartfelt speech – on the day he got married, no less – Dalglish Sr came back with a great joke that left his son completely speechless.
Speaking about the FC Bullard PodcastPaul said: “So I’m getting married and you know, me and my dad have always had that relationship that most dads have where it’s just old fashioned Scottish, like when I was younger he always told me I was doing well, but then you were tortured on the car ride home, the entire car ride home.
“My mom said, ‘Oh, your dad said you did well,’ and he hammered me in the car for the last ten minutes on the way home.
‘That was his way of doing things.
“So at the wedding I thought, you know what? I’m going to say something nice about my father. Correct. And my mother.
“I said I did this and I was very lucky in my career to do this.
“And I said I’m so lucky to have such a good mom and dad, and a stable mom and dad.
“And I said, if I had listened to my father a little more during my career, maybe I would have achieved a little more.
“And he shouted at the wedding: ‘You listened to me, son. I always told you you were a s****!’
‘I swear to God, I swear to God. At the wedding!
“And that was it.
“I thought, oh, he fucking killed me.
“It absolutely ruined me in front of everyone. Brilliant.”
